Synopsis:
The Ancient Roman public's hunger for gladiatorial combat has never been greater. The Emperor Domitian's passion for novelty and variety in the arena has given rise to a very different kind of warrior: the Gladiatrix. Sole survivor of a shipwreck off the coast of Asia Minor, Lysandra finds herself the property of Lucius Balbus, owner of the foremost Ludus for female gladiators in the Eastern Empire. Lysandra, a member of an ancient Spartan sect of warrior priestesses, refuses to accept her new status as a slave. Forced to fight for survival, her deadly combat skills win the adoration of the crowds, the respect of Balbus. But Lysandra's Spartan pride also earns her powerful enemies: Sorina, Gladiatrix Prima and leader of the Barbarian faction, and the sadistic Numidian trainer, Nastasen. When plans are laid for the ultimate combat spectacle to honor the visit of the emperor's powerful new emissary, Lysandra must face her greatest and deadliest trial. This is a thrilling first novel that combines fascinating historical detail with blistering action.

Ok so I just finished Gladiatrix and LOVED IT!!!! The most shocking part is the whole thing with Balbus and Nikos...that came from left field I swear....I never saw that coming. lol. It was even more shocking than the rape. I mean that was brutal but I was expecting it. I cannot believe Sorina killed him though it was smart and I was shocked that Trajan stopped the fight and freed them. I didnt see that coming either. I was sad that Penelope and Danae died...I really liked them. I cannot wait for the sequel my rating: *****

So there will be a sequel? I'm glad to hear that because I didn't like this ending if this was going to be only book. When is it supposed to be released? The rape was a shock, but I knew those two would come to blows,he hated her so much something was bound to happen.I wish she had the chance to kill him though. I also wish Sorina would have died. I mean all the build up and they both live.I so wanted her dead. But I guess that will happen in the sequel I was wishing Lysandra and Catuvolcos would end up together too.She went through so much I was hoping she would let him in and comfort her and be there for her as more than friends. I'd like to see what she does with the Ludus, will she run it,set them free, will the trainers stay. vilmarys when you said the thing with Balbus and Nikos was shocking did you mean Balbus and Eros? And what did you think was a shock? The fight scene I think were written so well. You felt like you were right there watching the fights. He really went into detail with them which made the book that much better. I liked the pace of the book,I didn't find there were down times in it.There was always something going on.

Yea I finished the book. I really really liked it. It was a page turner and there was always something the make you wanting to read more . I agree with Blinky, the fight scene was great. I was really glad that Lysandra and Catuvolcos ended up being friends. I liked they way they worked together. I was suprised by the ending thought, I did not forsee Lysandra and Sorina gaining their freedom, and I did not think that Balbus woulf give up everything and just give the ludus to Lysandra. I was a bit upset that Sorina was not put down so to say, but that is why they write sequels......
I give this book 5 stars

I did not expect that they were intimate. I had no idea that was even coming that is why i thought it was a shock. I also wanted Sorina dead but that will happen in the next book, hopefully. Im also glad that Catavulcos and Lysandra were just friends. He has a thing for Doris so I wouldn't expect him to fall back for Lysandra. I loved the fight scenes as well
