The cautionary science fiction author who pens amazing short stories in his Pump Six and Other Stories and the novel The Windup Girl. Highly recommended to all science fiction fans, especially those who don't mind a darker tale.

Here's an excerpt from my Pump Six and Other Stories review:
For some reason, all while reading Pump Six and Other Stories I couldn't stop thinking that Paolo Bacigalupi must be some sort of demented Ray Bradbury. Of course, I mean this in the fondest, most respectful way possible. It actually took me a while to sort out where this image came from exactly, but I think I've figured it out. Firstly, Bradbury was the first author to really amaze me with how he could take our world and more or less create an entirely new world out of it. Second, I was always have been in love with Bradbury's imagination. Both of these qualities are true of Bacigalupi. In Pump Six and Other Stories, he takes our world, perverts a particular idea or two, and fast forwards. That isn't to say that there's a formula for Bacigalupi's fiction. I wouldn't ever question the man's power of imagination, creativity, and unique talent after reading through these stories. Rather, what I mean to say is that the tales are all very much concerned with the future of humanity and the unforeseen pitfalls humans may fall into. Somehow, this absolute originality and beauty in his stories finds a weirdly cooperative juxtaposition with the grotesque images and warnings. I came away from the stories oddly disturbed and thrilled.
