Libba Bray writes young adult fiction and is the author of the 'A Great and Terrible Beauty' series, which has a total of three books published. The series starts with the self-titled book 'A Great and Terrible Beauty'. "It’s 1895, and after the suicide of her mother, 16-year-old Gemma Doyle is shipped off from the life she knows in India to Spence, a proper boarding school in England. Lonely, guilt-ridden, and prone to visions of the future that have an uncomfortable habit of coming true, Gemma’s reception there is a chilly one. To make things worse, she’s been followed by a mysterious young Indian man, a man sent to watch her. But why? What is her destiny? And what will her entanglement with Spence’s most powerful girls—and their foray into the spiritual world—lead to?"Find out more at; www.libbabray.com/

I tried to read this one but the first few pages didn't captivate me, I know, should not give up that easily. But does it get better later on?

It's been a couple years since I read it--I think I finished the last book about 2 or 3 years ago--but I really enjoyed the series. I'll admit, it's definitely a trial to read (the last book was about a million pages long (I looked it up on amazon, it was 848 pages in the paperback edition )). But I, myself really enjoyed the characters and the plot. This was one of the books that really got me into historical fiction and (relatively) urban fantasy. blodeuedd, I personally think it got better, but it's not a life-changing book by any means, so it's okay if you didn't get very far. ;D
